In fashion school, I wanted my final project to be denim and lace. For me, lace held the story of where I came from—my city, my roots, my culture.

At the time, I was studying in another city, and I brought the idea to my professor. He didn’t think it would work, so I changed everything on the spot. I ended up doing a project that didn’t feel like me at all… and I left feeling empty.

I called this series "Redemption" because it took me almost 20 years after this day to realize something simple: it’s worth listening to people who want the best for you. Hearing different opinions with an open heart matters.

But in the end, the art you make has to come from a real place. From your story, your truth. Even if other people don’t get it. That’s what makes the world beautiful.

Today, I finally have the freedom and confidence to say that I'm proud of everything that brought me here. And I’m so happy my canvases are going to have a lot of lace in them from now on 🎨🎨🤎🤎
