August: A Month Surrounded by Art

August was a month filled with art, movement, connection, and some truly memorable moments.

Throughout the month, I had the opportunity to take my work beyond the studio and participate in four wonderful art events across Ottawa and the surrounding region: Buster’s Bar & Grill, Carleton Place Riverfront Artscape, Art in Strathcona Park, and the Humanics Sculpture & Art Fair.

Each setting was completely different—from an intimate evening exhibition to beautiful outdoor spaces surrounded by trees, water, sculptures, and nature—but together they made August feel like one continuous celebration of art.

What stayed with me most were the connections made along the way. Meeting people who stopped to look closely at a painting, hearing what they saw or felt in a piece, talking about my creative process, and reconnecting with people who already knew my work reminded me why sharing art in person is so meaningful.

There is a very different energy when a painting leaves the studio. In the studio, the relationship is between the artist and the work. At an art fair, that relationship expands. Suddenly, each piece begins its own conversation with someone new, sometimes creating interpretations and emotions I could never have anticipated while making it.

August was also a beautiful reminder of the strength of our local creative community. I was surrounded by talented artists and makers, each bringing their own perspective and story. Being part of that environment—sharing space, ideas, conversations, and encouragement—is something I deeply value.

And, of course, seeing some of my paintings find new homes made the month even more special. Knowing that something created quietly in my studio can connect with someone enough that they choose to make it part of their own space is always incredibly rewarding.

After four exhibitions in one month, I returned to the studio feeling grateful, inspired, and full of new ideas.

Thank you to everyone who visited, stopped for a conversation, supported my work, purchased a piece, or simply spent a few moments experiencing the art.

August was busy, beautiful, and inspiring—and a wonderful chapter in my artistic journey.
